2016 Budget Yet To Be Signed By Buhari, No Details From NASS

President Muhammadu Buhari has declined to sign the harmonised N6.06 trillion 2016 budget one week after the file was sent to him by the National Assembly, sources from the presidency said yesterday (Tuesday, March 30). The president believes that Nigeria has been ripped off by economic crisis and that delaying the signing of the budget will help the country to come out of its present economic situation.

Citing one of the reasons why the budget has not been signed, a presidential spokesperson said the budget has no details. The source said the National Assembly is yet to transmit the details of the Appropriation Bill days after it was passed. In line with his fight against corruption, Buhari believes that signing a Bill without details will give room to reckless spending thereby breeding corruption.
‘Buhari hasn’t signed the budget because he is unaware of the contents’ the source said. I believe the National Assembly failed to transmit the details to Mr President because they are probably playing politics with the budget, the official who spoke under anonymity concluded.
