Benue Police Foil Kidnappers’ Attempt To Collect Ransom

The police in Benue state at the weekend foiled an attempt by kidnappers to collect ransom in respect of a business man in Gboko, Emeka Chika.
Chika was kidnapped by five gunmen who drove him in his car into a nearby bush along Gboko-Aliade road and demanded for ransom.

During negotiations on how much ransome the family should pay with Chika’s wife, she informed the police that her husband had been kidnapped.
Our correspondent gathered that the suspects were using Chika’s mobile telephone to discuss the issue of ransom with his wife when the police arrived at the scene following a tipoff from the people of Akpusu village in the early hours of Saturday.
It was learnt that as soon as the abductors who had tied Chika’s hands and legs sighted the police patrol team, they jumped into their waiting vehicle and zoomed off firing uncontrollably into the air.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Moses Yamu, said Chika was rescued in a good health.
Yamu said the police have collected useful information from volunteers and gave the assurance that some persons would soon be arrested in connection with the crime.
